More than just climbing
Climbing mountains forms the backbone of the expeditions, but during our overseas visits we also act as ambassadors of the Scottish Scouting Movement.
True, we do manage some sightseeing, but more importantly, we are able to assist the host countries in many ways.
In Russia, medical equipment was donated to the Pushkinskaya Children’s hospital and some of the equipment used on the expedition was donated to the Scouts of the Brateevo District in Moscow.
In Alaska the expedition assisted in the preparation of a Scout Centre for summer camps, while in Argentina financial support was provided to the host Scout Group to help complete the building of their Scout hut.
And in Kilimanjaro the expedition purchased and planted fruit trees, assisted at an
orphanage and did some maintenance at several primary schools.
